History of Knaus Berry

The Knaus Berry Farm land was founded by two brothers, Jess, the father of Ray and Russell, and their uncle Harley. Around 1924, the brothers moved to Miami from Missouri. In 1926, when the hurricane ended, they started to grow vegetables on 80 acres of land. The farm was near the area where Homestead Air Reserve Base now is. They built two-story houses not far away from where the farm is now.

The owners of the current farm, Ray and Russell spent their whole childhood there. However, in 1942, when the German military disrupted sending off the Florida coast, they decided to move back to Missouri. In 1956, the Knaus brothers returned and started the farm again by growing berries. They opened the berry land for the local residents for U-picks and built a bakery named Knaus Berry Farm
